Oh man, these are some of my favorite places to visit in Italy - thanks for taking my mind on this journey.
The recipe for Melanzane a Funghetto looks fantastic, although I must say I cook this recipe regularly when eggplant is in season...I just didn't know the name of the dish!
I so enjoyed these delightful glimpses of southern Italy, Domenica. The Baroque church reminded me of several I saw in southeastern Sicily. Your recommendations are such an enticement to return to Italy ASAP! I’m excited to try the eggplant dish too!
Love these dispatches. We are in Rome now and I got so excited when I saw the name of your newsletter on a sandwich board outside a restaurant. Then I thought about it for a second and realized it’s a common phrase 😂 but I love it even more now!
I love aubergines and their creamy flesh. Many people think they are for autumn stews and warming dishes, but they can also be zingy, refreshing, and totally delicious in the summer when served cold. So good.
That is a VERY big glass of grappa you had for breakfast at Bar Cotognata Leccese.
I have two huge Italian travel dreams. One is to stay in a Venetian palazzo for a long while, wandering around with friends coming and going. The other is to take a Caravaggio Tour, seeing as many of his paintings in person as possible. This post has reminded me of that.
Your Southern Italian Swing looks marvelous. I am especially envious of your visit to Ristorante Mea Culpa for the name alone.
Well, the first dream is happening in October, so I am hoping to start fantasy planning the second soon after my return! I'll bet you'd be a fun companion in tracing the footsteps of a murderous genius.
Half the fun of such a trip is in the anticipation.
You will be extra envious knowing that said accommodation is being paid for by an absurdly generous friend. There's no way I could afford it otherwise!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and recommendations, Domenica. Italy's capacity to delight and be delicious is large!
It seems endless, doesn't it?

Thanks for reading, Jack. Happy to have supplied the name for this delicious dish.
A fine travelogue, Domenica, although I was hoping to peep the handwritten notes in your comp books!
Ha 😄

Please let me know if you need a companion for the Caravaggio tour.

OK now I'm envious of your Venetian palazzo sojourn even though it hasn't even happened yet!
