Hi...hope you are doing well and great with finishing your book!!!
I don't like making limoncello, but I love drinking it. We have a Limoncello Golf Tournament at our club....all the ladies love it 'cause we drink it all day long!!! 😍 I make a toast in Italian and off we go!!!! 😱
That sounds like the perfect way to tee off. I'd invite myself, but I took golf lessons years ago and had a hard time getting the ball airborne. Maybe I needed a swig of limoncello???
Thanks for the shot out for my newsletter. You are forever my Italian Liqueur muse and the galley of your book Preserving Italy is my bible. I have one question: For the creamy concoctions do they always have to be kept in the freezer? Can they be kept in the fridge or even room temp? I've always been confused about this.
This is a great question. I know it’s possible to store commercial cream liqueurs (Baileys) at room temp but I would not recommend it for homemade, in spite of the high alcohol and sugar content. You can definitely store it in the fridge, but I don’t know how long it lasts. I have kept homemade Vov in the fridge for several months either no issues. Still, freezer is best IMO.
cold espresso in icy mineral water sounds sooo good. I really love my nocino recipe. It has both alcohol and wine in it, which is different from many other versions. It comes from a friend of mine in Abruzzo, and it ages really well.
I made the strawberry cream liqueur for my friends. One thought she’d have it all to herself since her husband doesn’t like strawberries. Well, he likes strawberry cream liqueur.
Thanks, Jolene. Appreciate your thoughts. I expect I’ll be cross-eyed after cross-checking and double-checking the consistency of all the weight measurements 😅
If I still drank, I would definitely be making these! So lovely. Your description(s) of the DC humidity is so perfect. I remember thost storms so well. I remember the heat rising from the sidewalks. I remember as a child riding around in the station wagon with the vinyl seats and my legs sticking to the vinyl! Good luck on your manuscript edits!
I've been making limoncello for some years. I diverged from my family's penchant for anisette, colored red, yellow, blue for weddings. We drank my father's last batch at his funeral in 1998. You are so right: homemade Italian liqueur is the perfect house gift for a dinner or other social gathering, which I did last Sunday at a neighborhood party welcoming newly arrived immigrants to our town.
What beautiful liqueurs! I’ve made limoncello once but used 80 proof vodka and it wasn’t quite as good. I will have to try again with 100 proof. I did not know Everclear was still around! I will have to look for it.
Crema di Fragola sounds like the perfect dessert drink
It is indeed! Thanks, Harrison

So many laughs in this newsletter. Thank you for some levity on a day of heavy news.
Thank you for reading, Suzanne. Hard not to come off as tone deaf on a day like today, but I really believe people need a little relief now and then.
I love nocino! Haven’t had it in years. And I haven’t tasted sambuca since childhood but now I want to…love the sound of all those spices.
Our summer drinks tend more towards a big ice cube in my wine, red or white…or a cold espresso in icy mineral water, depending on time of day!

Ha! Too funny. Luckily, it's easy to make (when strawberries are in season).
I felt refreshed just reading this! Good luck with the manuscript, Domenica! ❤️

😂 extra-good luck!

Oh lord, vinyl seats! Thanks for reading, Susie. I’m planning a part 2 of non-alcoholic refreshers, so stay tuned.

What a lovely way to welcome new neighbors. Bravo 🙌
