I make the risotto on the regular but the others I've got to try especially the salads. Adding radicchio to an orange and olive salad sounds especially appealing. And I have half a pomegranate waiting to be used...

I always crave radicchio in winter. Mother Nature sure knew what she was doing when she gave us winter chicories.

There's nothing like crispy radicchio to brighten a long, gray winter month - especially with a heavy dose of blood oranges...

Such a good and fresh combination. They really brighten my mood. I will be eating a lot of this over the next week...and beyond!

I adore these redheads! It's hard to find quality radicchio here in the States...not eaten frequently enough, they languish too long in supermarket cases

I can only find the standard radicchio di Chioggia (round heads) here in the DC area. I know NYC, California, and Oregon have more varieties, but the mid-Atlantic is behind the chicory curve!

Love radicchio! Thanks for the recipes. Hope the boom is going well!

Thanks, Jenny. Of course your comment brings to mind radicchio and...cheese! So many kinds of cheese go well with it, but I especially like blue cheeses and creamy cheeses like robiola or even brie.

I confess I’ve never explored the wonders of radicchio. With this intriguing trove of recipes—and that marvelous Daniela Bracco illustration)

—I’m inspired to dive in (assuming I can get my hands on the key ingredient!). Thanks, Domenica!

Access is the big issue for me as well, Ruth. There are so many varieties of radicchio (and other chicories) and I only ever see the standard round radicchio di Chioggia at the market—which is better than no radicchio, I guess.

Oh, these recipes all look so wonderful!! I love radicchio when it is served to me, but I never think of buying it. What great ideas for this month and next! I’m buying some radicchio when I head to the market this week. Thank you!!

Lots of wonderful ideas here Domenica! I adore radicchio - both raw and cooked. A favourite of mine in late autumn has always been a simple salad of radicchio with gorgonzola and pear and some olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Also a huge fan of radicchio in risotto. My latest discovery is that radicchio briefly wilted in a very hot dry pan (so it gets a bit darker and smokey in flavour) is delicious on pizza rossa!

I didn’t answer the question about winter foods that help me: oranges definitely help: a “colonial orange cake” that has a delicious texture from finely ground nuts stirred into the batter, orange zest, and orange juice, but otherwise is and old-style yellow cake with lots of butter and eggs; a cranberry-orange nut bread that is lower on sugar and butter than most US fruit breads. And I make gumbo, with okra and tomatoes from the summer garden.
